On our Japanese spa tour, we mentioned two body treatments at the Four Seasons Chinzan-so that use ingredients used more for cooking than beauty! We couldn’t resist trying our hand at creating our Art of the Spa versions of these treats, enjoy!:
Sake Clay Cocoon
1. Dry brush your body using a natural bristle brush moving towards the heart. You can find these at any drugstore – Earth Therapeutics makes a great one with a long reach for those hard to get to spots.
2. Then to 1/2 cup of powdered clay add 1 tablespoon of clear sake to moisten. Then continue to add sake until it reaches a cake batter consistency. Then add 3 tsps of essential oil of choice.
3. Spread the clay mixture on your legs/arms/chest/ then lay either on towels on your bed or line your tub with towels and lay there until the clay dries about 10 minutes. Rinse and voila you’re exfoliated and glowy! Do not use on face.
Powdered clay needs to be beauty grade – I always order mine online. Here are two I like for this recipe:

Black Sesame Body Ritual
A blend of black sesame, carrot seed, honey and tamarind is used to exfoliate the skin, Mix the below ingredients and use as a shower scrub. Follow with a rich moisturizer all over your body. Then do a warm towel wrap (if you don’t have a towel warmer – tumble them in the dryer while you’re showering/bathing). Relax for 15 minutes with a cup of hot herbal tea. Enjoy the rest of your day!
1/4 cup of black sesame seeds (found in asian and international markets)
1 tablespoon carrot seed oil
1 tablespoon honey
Optional: 1/2 tsp tamarind paste
